Name: Brigitte Herrada
Arbitrarily detained: July 2, 2017
Released: June 1, 2018
Place of confinement: House arrest
Occupation: Student
Brigitte Herrada was arrested on July 2, 2017. On November 13, 2017 she was granted house arrest. However, she was held for several months in the Coordination Center of Poliaragua, in Maracay.
Brigitte is a cook and a master’s student. The day of his arrest, she was demonstrating against the regime inside the facilities of the Universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador (UPEL). State security forces violated university autonomy and took several imprisoned students. At the presentation hearing held in the military jurisdiction, Brigitte reported the attempted rape, torture and ill-treatment suffered. The military judge granted conditional freedom and declined jurisdiction in the civil jurisdiction. However, the judge who took the case later annulled all the previous judge’s orders, violating the principles that govern the criminal process.
On June 1, 2018, a measure granted by the National Constituent Assembly released Brigitte and other political prisoners with restrictive measures. Before her release, she was forced to appear before the Truth Commission of that organization, in an event broadcast by the State channel.
