César Orta

César Orta was arrested on May 2, 2014 in Maracay, Aragua State, along with other officers for allegedly planning a coup against the Venezuelan government. The coup was known as “Blue Strike” because it mostly involves aviation officers. They were all accused of the presumed plan of use a Tucano aircraft to attack several government headquarters.

César graduated from the Military Aviation School in 2000 and has two children.
The officers involved in this same case are: Aviation General Oswaldo Hernández, retired Colonel (Av) José Gregorio Delgado, Lieutenant Colonel Ruperto Chiquinquirá Sánchez, Major (Av) Víctor José Ascanio, Major (Av) Cesar Orta Santamaría, Captain (Av) Andrés Thomson Martínez. Captain Neri Córdoba Moreno (Av.), captain Laided Salazar de Zerpa (Av), captain (r) of the National Guard Juan Carlos Nieto Quintero and the captain of Corvette José Acacio Moreno.

On May 5, 2015, the Permanent War Council of Caracas sentenced César Orta to 8 years and 7 months in prison for the crimes of instigation to rebellion and against the military decorum.

Cesar, like all political prisoners, is innocent.
