Dayana Santana

Name: Dayana Santana
Arbitrarily detained: July 14, 2017
Released: February 9, 2018
Place of confinement: El Helicoide

Dayana Santana was arbitrarily detained since July 14, 2017. She is the mother of a 5-year-old boy and her husband, José Díaz Pimentel, was extrajudicially executed by the State security forces in the El Junquito Massacre.

According to some reporters, Dayana was arrested in order to pressure her husband to turn himself in to the police forces, since Díaz Pimentel was a member of a group that opposed the regime of Nicolás Maduro and was in hiding, together with the former official Oscar Pérez.

On February 9, 2018, the Executive Director of the Foro Penal, Alfredo Romero, confirmed that Santana was released with precautionary measures. Currently, she is banned from leaving the country and must appear periodically before the courts. She spent more than 7 months unjustly detained while her husband remained in hiding.
