Released

Everth Celis

Name: Everth Celis
Arbitrarily detained: February 1, 2018
Released: March 26, 2018
Place of confinement: Dgcim-Boleíta
Occupation: Rescuer

Everth Celis was a victim of forced disappearance. His relatives reported him as missing on February 3, 2018, after 72 hours without hearing of his whereabouts, but in the following days it was known that the director of the Caricuao Rescue and Operations Group was being held in the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim) in Boleíta.

They linked him to the case of Oscar Pérez, who was extrajudicially executed in January 2018. His arbitrary detention coincided with the case of Vanessa Barroso, also charged in relation to the pilot. Both of them were accused of treason.

Foro Penal attorneys called Everth’s incarceration a kidnapping. The rescuer was almost two months behind bars before being released with heavy restrictions. Currently, he is under filing and requires a permit from the court to move out of his state of residence.
