Geraldine Abreu was arbitrarily detained since December 3, 2016 at El Helicoide. At the time of her arrest, she was the executive vice president of operations for the Credicard Consortium, the company in charge of credit and debit card transactions for most of the country’s banks.
Through the media, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, accused Geraldine and other top executives of Credicard of cyber attack, financial terrorism and treason. She was tried by a military court. On March 21, 2018, her hearing was deferred for the tenth time.
On June 7, 2018, Geraldine was released as part of a “pacification” policy of the National Constituent Assembly. She had a release ballot that was not accepted by the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service since April 6, 2018.
