Venezuela is the country of the Americas with the most political prisoners and arbitrary arrests strong>. Since 2014, there has been a significant increase in the number of political prisoners and, consequently, in the number of women arbitrarily detained. These women are arbitrarily detained because as Venezuelans they exercised their rights, expressing in some form and from different spaces, that they disagree with the regime strong>.
For this reason, on March 8, 2017, International Women’s Day strong>, Acción por la Libertad began the campaign #Liberenlas, with the aim of making visible each of the cases of women who are arbitrarily detained In Venezuela. This initiative represents not only the struggle for the rights of Venezuelan women, but also for the freedom of all political prisoners strong>.
