Michael was arbitrarily detained on October 26, 2016 after he participated in the Toma de Venezuela, a protest that took place throughout the country. Michael and other young students were arrested by police officers after the demonstration.
The thirteen young people arrested after exercising the right to peaceful protest, were charged with the crimes of public instigation, agavillamiento and outrage.
After months of arbitrary detention, Michael was released on May 11, 2017. He should never have been in jail.
