Name: Ricardo Antich
Arbitrarily detained: February 13, 2015
Place of confinement: La Pica
Occupation: Lieutenant of the Air Force
Ricardo is one of the military detainees for the “Blue Strike”. Officials of the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim) detained him on February 13, 2015 in Maracay, placing him at the order of a court martial.
The official name given by the Nicolás Maduro regime to the alleged attempted coup was “Operación Jericó.” According to Diosdado Cabello, those involved planned to bomb several points in Caracas, such as the headquarters of the National Electoral Council and the Supreme Court of Justice. Antonio Ledezma was also arrested for this cause.
Initially, Ricardo was detained at the headquarters of the Dgcim in Boleíta, but on May 1, 2015, he was arbitrarily transferred to the Ramo Verde military prison. After 95 hearings and 36 deferrals, the lieutenant was accused of instigating the rebellion with aggravating circumstances and against military decorum, being sentenced to 9 years in prison.
This sentence was overturned by the military court on April 3, 2018. However, those involved in the case remain unfairly behind bars. Since his conviction, Ricardo Antich is being held in the prison of La Pica, in Monagas state.
