Name: Alberto Maita Espinoza
Arbitrarily detained: January 11, 2018
Place of confinement: Ramo Verde
Occupation: First Army Lieutenant
Alberto Maita is one of the military incarcerated on January 11, 2018, for his alleged connection with the former Inspector of the Corps of Scientific and Criminal Investigation (CICPC), Oscar Pérez, executed by the regime of Nicolás Maduro. The General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim) captured him shortly after Pérez’s murder.
Although there is no evidence to link him to the ex-inspector, the Second Military Control Court charged him with the crimes of treason against the homeland and military rebellion in grade of complicity. Since then, he has been unjustly imprisoned in the Ramo Verde prison.
Maita attended his audience with grave signs of torture. Dairis Espinoza, mother of the young lieutenant, reported that her son urinated blood after the abuse suffered by officials of the Dgcim. He has fluid in his knees after they put weight on them to torture him and he also suffers from stress.
