Carlos Jiménez

Name: Carlos Luis Jiménez

Arbitrarily detained: November 23, 2015

Place of confinement: Ramo Verde

Occupation: Military of the National Guard

At the time of his arrest, Carlos served as Commander of the Third Company (El Recreo parish) of the Southern Detachment of the Capital District. On November 23, 2015, he was taken to the headquarters of the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (DGCIM) and located in a space of 2×2 meters, where he was isolated and incommunicado for 7 days.

“There was no arrest warrant,” says his wife, María Fernanda Blanco. On November 30, he was transferred to the General Command of the National Guard, where he was informed that he would be reincorporated into his job. However, they then handcuff him again and take him to the DGCIM without explanation.
On November 1, Carlos was presented before the Control Court, where he was accused of being involved in an attempted coup, described as “Phoenix Strike”, along with other soldiers of the GN. Today, he is arrested in Ramo Verde, a military prison.
His wife claims that his trial has been plagued by constant violations of due process, since there is no evidence to keep them in custody. “He’s there because of a complaint from a fellow of the same component; behind the bars he have missed the first steps of his year and a half baby. Ramo Verde is the only space where today he can play and share with his first-born”, she says.

Carlos is part of a long list of soldiers persecuted and imprisoned by the Venezuelan regime. Like all of them, he’s innocent. #LiberenACarlos #LiberenATODOSPososPolíticos.
