Name: Hugo Bastidas
On April 12, 2018, Hugo Bastidas was intercepted and kidnapped by officials of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin), who had been following him for days. The councilman was accused of promoting destabilizing actions against the government and public order.
The prosecutor’s office of the Public Ministry linked him, without evidence, with attacks on public entities of the Trujillo state. At the time of his arrest, Sebin officials claimed to have seized 80 pamphlets with messages against the government of Nicolás Maduro.
For two and a half months, Hugo was imprisoned in the Police Headquarters of Valera. Subsequently, on June 26, 2018, he was granted the precautionary measure of house arrest. He’s currently serving his custody by police officers. Like all political prisoners, he’s innocent.
