Arbitrarily detained: January 21, 2015
Released: December 23, 2017
Place of confinement: The Tomb
“Captured Juan De Sousa, one who wrote on Twitter. Very brave @EnYukote, because you are enyucado sir, assume your responsibility! “. With those words, Diosdado Cabello sealed the fate of another Twitter user through his program Con El Mazo Dando.
On January 21, 2015, officials of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) stormed the house of Juan De Sousa and took him away without a warrant. He was unjustly accused of terrorism and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Cabello pointed him out for alleged conspiracy with Iván Carratú to hire computer hackers to suspend Cantv’s telephone service, in a plan he called “La Salida II”.
Two years of imprisonment in La Tumba caused havoc in Juan’s health. He went on a hunger strike to be transferred to the Military Hospital, where he needed to be operated on for prostate cancer, on April 24, 2017.
He suffered isolation and white torture. Recluded in a 2×3 cell, without ventilation or sunlight, he was deprived of the right to talk with his lawyers and family.
He was released by a measure of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) on December 23, 2017. In violation of Venezuelan laws, his release was given in exchange for his exile in Portugal. Currently, he remains in exile.
