Name: Yermania Perdomo
Arbitrarily detained: October 26, 2016
Released: April 29, 2017
Place of confinement: Police Station of Poliaragua
Occupation: Student and activist of Voluntad Popular.
Yermania was arbitrarily detained on October 26, 2016 after participating in the Toma de Venezuela, a protest that took place throughout the country. Germany and other young students were arrested by police officers after the demonstration.
The thirteen young people arrested after exercising the right to peaceful protest, charged them with the crimes of public instigation, agavillamiento and outrage.
On April 29, 2017, they freed Yermania because one of the youth’s lawyers reported that in the final acts it was determined that they would only be tried for instigation of public order, a crime that does not merit imprisonment. The release occurred a day after the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, demanded that they release all political prisoners in Venezuela.
